internships

CEA-CREST has many close associations with government agencies and private firms conducting environmental science research. Whether you are interested in a government career or a position in the private sector, CEA-CREST offers relevant environmental science experience and training through internships. These are a wonderful way to gain practical experience that will complement your academic studies. You may earn course credit for completing an internship, and some internships provide a salary.

CEA-CREST, in partnership with the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the U.S. Forest Service, offers dedicated, ongoing internships at regional labs, field stations, and administrative offices. Internships in other areas of industry or government can also be arranged. For further information on CEA-CREST interships, contact the Environmental Science Outreach Coordinator at (323) 343-5799.

CEA-CREST bridges program
CEA-CREST students are eligible for the CEA-CREST Bridges Program, which supports its graduates who are applying to Ph.D. programs related to the environmental sciences. The amount of assistance will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Students must submit evidence of financial need in their doctoral studies and must demonstrate effort to secure other sources of funding.

alliances for graduate education and the professoriate (AGEP)
This is a program funded by the National Science Foundation that serves participating University of California campuses. AGEP seeks to significantly increase the number of underrepresented minority students receiving doctoral degrees in the sciences (physical and life science disciplines), mathematics, and engineering (SME). The structure of the program and the level of funding of AGEP varies among the U.C campuses. For information on the participating AGEP programs at the California State Universities, contact Colette Patt or (510) 642-0794.

project 1000
Project 1000 is a national program created to assist underrepresented students applying to graduate school. Students may apply to participating Project 1000 institutions by using one application. Participation is free of charge to individual students and to the participating institutions. See the web site for further details.

EPA- STAR fellowships for graduate environmental study

This fellowship program is sponsored by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Support is provided for graduate fellowships in academic disciplines relating to environmental research including physical, biological, and social sciences and engineering.

These fellowships are intended to help defray costs associated with advanced environmental study leading to the masters or doctoral degree. The purpose of the fellowship program is to encourage promising students to obtain advanced degrees and pursue careers in environmentally related fields. For additional information call 1-800-490-9194 or go to http://es.epa.gov/ncerqa.
